Most BTO homeowners plan their renovation based on:
· Show flat impressions
· Pinterest images
· Social media trends
But reality only hits after living inside the home. I will share base on my vast experience with so many home owners I met, some even designing their home for the third time.

1. Storage Is Always Underestimated
The most common regret: “Why is my house still messy?”
Because:
· Storage planned for photos, not life
· No allowance for future growth
· Too much open shelving, not enough concealed storage
Good storage planning is invisible until it’s missing.
2. Electrical Planning Is More Important Than Style
You can change furniture. You can repaint walls. However, once you move in:
· Socket placement
· Lighting circuits
· Switch locations
The above are usually painful and expensive to correct. Most homeowners only realize this when extension cords appear everywhere

3. Carpentry vs Flexibility
Full-height carpentry looks great on Day 1 but life changes:
· Family grows
· Needs shift
· Layouts evolve
Overbuilt homes sacrifice flexibility for aesthetics. Design should support change, not resist it.
4. Pinterest Doesn’t Show Daily Reality
What Pinterest doesn’t show:
· Cleaning effort
· Wear and tear
· Lighting conditions at night
· Maintenance cost
Designing for photos instead of living creates frustration very quickly.

5. Renovation Is a Long-Term Decision
BTO renovation is not about:
· Following trends
· Copying layouts
· Impressing visitors
It’s about:
· Daily comfort
· Practical flow
· Future adaptability
The best BTO homes feel better every year, not worse.
